Au Rebours

I confess I had never heard of Au Rebours.

Is it a classic in the horror genre and worth reading?

  1. Au Rebours, often translated as ‘Against the Grain’ is definitely worth reading. It’s a classic novel of the Decadent movement. Huysmans had a profound influence on such notable aesthetes as Oscar Wilde and Aubrey Beardsley.
I don’t think you will find anything in it particularly shocking to modern taste, but you will certainly gain an appreciation for the spirit of the fin du siecle.
