Was Holmes an ‘Artist’?

“Holmes, however, like all great artists, lived for his art’s sake….”

I wonder if Sherlock Holmes considered himself an artist?

He frequently berates Watson for not writing up the cases

as if they were syllogisms, so one can’t help but wonder —

whatever strange forms art may take in the blood —

if the Master would accept or reject that label.
